Why this drill
A serve you can place is a serve you own. Calling every target out loud — and getting graded on it — turns serve practice from repetition into accountability, and the returner gets honest deep-return work on every ball.
Setup
Full court on the diagonal. Server with a supply of balls; returner ready across the net.
The drill
The server calls a target out loud before every serve — "deep middle", "backhand corner", "wide" — and serves. The returner grades the call (hit or miss, honestly) and returns every ball deep, following their return to the kitchen line. Ten serves, then swap roles. Score both jobs: called serves landed, and returns past mid-court with the returner reaching the line. The call is the drill — an uncalled good serve is luck wearing a uniform.
