Serve and Sprint

Why this drill

Serving practice that remembers pickleball is a running game. Serve, then make the trip your legs make all match — to the line, set, and back — so the tenth serve is struck with match legs, not range legs.

Setup

A court and a bucket of balls at the baseline. Nothing else.

The drill

Hit five full serves at match pace, aiming deep. Then sprint to the kitchen line, split step and hold a low ready position for two counts, and backpedal-turn — turn and jog, never a straight backpedal — to the baseline. That round trip after every five serves is one round; do six rounds, thirty balls. Score deep serves per round and watch what fatigue does to rounds five and six: that decay is the number this drill exists to shrink.

One thought to take on court

Slow the last three steps back to the baseline and reset your breathing — arriving calm is a skill you can practice.
