Two-on-One Dinks
Why this drill
The best dinking workout in the sport for the player on the one-side: two targets to manage, double the movement, and no rest between balls. For the pair, it is disciplined placement practice. Three players, no one standing around.
Setup
All three players at the non-volley-zone line: two side by side on one side of the net covering their full kitchen width, one alone on the other side. A few balls at the post.
The drill
Cooperative dink rally with one rule: the pair must alternate — every ball the solo player sends back is answered by the other partner — while the solo player may dink anywhere along the kitchen. The solo player works: sliding, recovering to the middle after every ball, hitting forehand and backhand dinks on the move. Rally to a target of thirty touches, then rotate the solo role. Two turns each in the solo spot is a full block.
One thought to take on court
Recover to the middle before their paddle meets the ball — reaching from where you stopped is how dinks pop up.
