Backhand Wall Block
Why this drill
The backhand dink is the shot rec players hide from — and matches find it anyway. Ten minutes of backhand-only wall time gives it more honest repetitions than a month of open play lets it dodge.
Setup
Wall with the 34-inch line. Seven feet back, slightly right of your rally line (for right-handers) so balls arrive naturally to the backhand side.
The drill
Dink backhand-only against the wall: one bounce, every ball above the line, compact push from the shoulder. Streaks of ten climb a rung — rung two adds a slide-step left and back per dink; rung three alternates one backhand from a still stance and one on the move. Three rungs is a ladder; log ladders per block. Finish with twenty choice dinks where you step around to take a forehand only when the ball truly crosses your midline — most players discover they've been stealing forehands they shouldn't.
One thought to take on court
Lead with the paddle face, elbow quiet in front — the backhand dink is a push from the shoulder, and the wrist is a passenger.
