Why this drill

Wall dinking with placement: two targets, alternating on demand. Aiming a dink while keeping it soft is the two-part skill the kitchen demands, and the wall lets you rehearse it hundreds of times an hour.

Setup

Wall with the 34-inch line. Chalk two marks a foot above the line, about six feet apart. Stand seven feet back, centered between them.

The drill

Dink continuously, alternating targets — left mark, right mark, left, right — sliding a step each way so every ball is played from a balanced stop in front of you. A ball counts when it strikes within a paddle-length of the correct mark, above the line, soft enough to dink again. Streaks of ten alternations; log your best. Then reverse the footwork challenge: stay centered and reach nothing — move your feet to every ball or the rep doesn't count.

One thought to take on court

Face the paddle where the ball should go and step there — steering with the wrist is how corners get missed.
