Why this drill

Paddle control is learned fastest just past the edge of comfortable — and keeping two balls alive against a wall lives exactly there. A beginner-friendly hand-eye builder that makes one-ball rallies feel slow afterward.

Setup

Any flat wall. Stand 5 to 6 feet back with two balls, a few spares within reach.

The drill

Start with one ball: soft continuous volleys against the wall, twenty in a row, to set the rhythm. Then add the second ball — hit the first, immediately serve the second underhand at the wall, and alternate: each ball gets hit as it returns while the other is in flight. Count total touches before one drops; five is a real start, fifteen is impressive, and the sport's soft hands live in the small, quick adjustments this forces. When both balls die, breathe, reset, go again. Expect comedy for the first five minutes — that's the drill working.
